Anaemia in pregnancy is a common pathology. According to Aylamazyan et al (2000, p. 167), approximately, 15 – 20 % of pregnant women suffer from the anaemia even in the developed countries. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO)*, the occurrence of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnant women in different countries ranged from 21 to 80%, depending on the level of haemoglobin, and from 49% to 99%, based on the level of serum iron.
