This easy to use app assumes little-to-no previous knowledge of Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) interpretation. Rather than enter the "rabbit hole" of advanced ABG labs (Sodium, Base excess, etc.), we restrict our program to what is commonly needed at the bedside: pH, CO2, and Bicarb. This app is made by two critical-care nurses and one flight paramedic.
In our app, your will find:
- A step by step guide to interpreting ABG.
- Tests that concentrate on pH, CO2, and Bicarb individually.
- Games to help you practice your skills.
- A simple ABG test without compensated or partially-compensated results.
- When you are ready, a full ABG test with compensated and partially-compensated results.
- Our easy to use ABG interpreter
If you have an older phone or tablet, check out our original ABG Master here:

When I was a new nurse, few things terrified me more than a respiratory therapist carrying a tiny piece of paper. I knew that they would hand me the paper. I knew I would struggle to remember the normal values for the ABG. I also knew I could not keep the ROME acronym straight when under pressure ("which values are supposed to move opposite?"). We have developed this app to help you master basic ABG, and impress your co-workers.
However, this (or any app) is no replacement for a skilled clinician. There are conditions that can effect the ABG that are beyond the scope of this program. Always treat the patient, not the equipment/labs. See our legal disclaimer in the app for further details.
